Global Meeting 2015

World Tourism Forum Global Meeting 2015 was held for the first time in Istanbul on 30 April at the Shangri-La Bosphorus hotel with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Delegates from Europe, USA, Russia, the Caucasus and Azerbaijan discussed the future of tourism at the forum. The forum was opened by President of the World Tourism Forum Bulut Bagcı and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s Director of General Promotion İrfan Önal with topics covered including Advertising Solutions for Tourism, Online Tourism, The Effects of Policy on Health Tourism & Health Tourism, New Visions in Aviation, New Generation Hotel Management, Technological Solutions in Tourism and Destination Marketing.


The topic of traveling in the world is becoming more and more important each day. New marketing channels started being used by both consumers and businesses and thus gaining more and more importance in form of social media, online reservation and traveling consultancy web sites.


The evaluation of tourism industry from the perspective of political planning and program was identified as being important aspect by many countries and governments. Instead of short-term planning in tourism industry investments along with strategic long-term planning will influence country and region’s tourism industry development in a right way. In recent years political and economic crises has influenced some countries’ share in world tourism market. Activities that should be undertaken during this period by economies nurtured mostly by tourism and the importance of international relations will be discussed in World Tourism Forum Global Meeting in Istanbul.


Parallel to rapid developments in technology civil aviation industry is showing fast developments in its area as well. Interest in aviation industry has risen with the demand for the secured and fast aviation transportation due to the vast amount of trade activities between countries. Medical tourism can be defined as the process of traveling outside the country of residence for the purpose of receiving medical care. Today we are experiencing both qualitative and quantitative shifts in patient mobility, as people travel from richer to less-developed countries in order to access health services. Such shift is mostly driven by the relative low-cost of treatments in less developed nations, the availability of inexpensive flights and increased marketing and online consumer information about the availability of medical services.


Nowadays destinations in tourism are becoming consumable from the marketing perspective. Destinations play vital role in improving that destination’s economic and social conditions and comparative advantage. Therefore, destinations are viewed with conceptual approach from the perspective of marketing strategy and positioning. For of any destination to be successful, joint efforts of all tourism stakeholders are required. In the World Tourism Forum / Mediterranean Meeting industry leaders in destination marketing and regional representatives will meet together to discuss the importance of destination marketing.


With the developments in IT together with display and press media, online advertising became one of the prior advertising solutions. Advantages of online advertising such as effectiveness, cost, flexibility and measurability made internet advertising more attractive to businesses.
